Brief:

For this project, I conceptualized a brand identity for a small-town bike-rental (among other things) company. South Haven, MI is a short jaunt away from where I live, and it’s a magical place to get away with your family. I wanted to create a bike rental company that would match that small-town vibe, and be of benefit to a place like South Haven.

Process:

One of my favorite things to do in South Haven is rent bikes and ride around the town. I decided to create a rental company that not only catered to small towns, but offered many services in one. Harry’s Rides was formed so that families can go in, get a friendly customer sales rep that knows the lay of the town and the best places to get coffee, and offer any kind of “ride” you want. With research, I discovered there are a lot of chain companies that are very corporate and non-personal, located in big cities. I wanted to create a company that was the opposite of that. Sort of a Chick-fil-A for the bike world.

Concept:

A big brand buzzword I wanted to shine through in this is friendly. I created a bright and cheerful color palette, reminiscent of summer days and flip flops to attract the family crowd, and used a pairing of bold sans-serif fonts to keep the brand clean and cheerful. The animated promo video also reflects their values, with a bright soundtrack and a simple style to keep the viewer interested. Overall, this brand is a celebration of summer and family time.
