When the pandemic changed the way almost everything operated, the ISU Horticulture Center relied more than ever on donations & love from supporters to keep it running and growing. One of their biggest fundraisers is the Wreath Sale, where the Center arranges pretty wintery foliage for sale.
Process:
For this project, I wanted to bring a little humor (if you don’t laugh, you cry, right?) to the year and draw attention to the advertising flyer with a quirky headline. I sent a few options to choose, from, but we ultimately went with this phrase, a gentle nudge to spread cheer and not covid. Combined with wintery tones and a cheerful red, this flyer was meant to draw attention (and maybe a few chuckles) and hopefully a few customers.
Concept:
I hand-lettered and illustrated the phrase and corresponding wreath drawing to give the piece more of a quaint, homey feeling. While we did utilize a traditional holiday color palette, we also brought in a cheerful sea blue-green to bring another level of dimension.
